As for me, last Saturday the guy that I am seeing took the big step and introduced me to his parents. AWK! Uhmm it seemed casual like they were dropping by his place to see how he is doing, but it felt more planned and less spontaneous… Bottom line is: I was totally unprepared!!
It didn’t last long – as they really only dropped by to say hi – and it definitely didn’t hurt, but the awkwardness of meeting the parents is hard to compare with any other. It was a big step for me (we ‘ve been seeing each other two months now) and I was quite surprised to see that he was very pleased that I met them. He later mentioned that they really liked me (phew!!).
To be honest, I am not keen on meeting a boyfriend’s parents and especially when I am unsure about the relationship… Parents always look for their children best interest and when they meet a new girlfriend/boyfriend they always come up with some long-term scenarios (that is -if they like you). Then they get really disappointed when you break up and they have to meet yet another bf/gf.
But I guess it’s all part of the dating routine after all… so here’s 9 steps on how to impress your boyfriend’s parents!
I shouldn’t be complaining – this is a pretty good sign that he’s serious about dating me
